New Farm: Back in Time Farm

I am very happy to welcome Ruth and Bill Hayden of Back In Time Farm to our family of farmers and vendors!

They are a small 14 acre family farm located in Statham, GA. They raise pastured poultry that are moved to fresh grass daily. In addition to what the chickens find on the pasture, they are fed a Non-GMO supplemental feed. They are watered with collected rain water. No antibiotics or growth hormones are given to chickens and no synthetic chemical pesticides are sprayed on grass.

Back in Time Farm raises red broilers which are a slower growing chickens and produces a flavorful bird – a “Back in Time bird” raised the old fashioned way.

B&G will still be offering chicken to the market as well. We have enough demand for chicken to support 2 great farms!!

Group Buy: Green Pasture FCLO

This weekend we will take orders for FCLO and other Green Pasture products.

This is a prepaid pre-order. As with all Group Buys, this item will not be available this Tuesday for pick up since I will be placing our order on Monday morning and due to shipping. I expect it to be available for pick up on Oct 6th.

This is a monthly group buy so don’t forget to order this weekend if you need some FCLO!

Cedar Rock Dairy Price Change (repeat)
We are so fortunate to have Cedar Rock Dairy deliver their milk weekly. Sam hates to do this but due to rising costs he has to increase the price of his milk. He’s been putting this off for several months but unfortunately he has no choice but to increase the price so he can continue to bring us the best Non-GMO, grass fed milk. Starting this weekend these are the prices:
Milk – Raw Jersey Cow Milk for Pets 1/2 gal (Glass Jar)* – $4.40
Milk – Raw Jersey Cow Milk for Pets (Plastic Jug) – $5.50

If you’ve been purchasing in plastic but would like to switch to glass, Sam will list additional GLASS JAR SETS on the market for purchase. If you order your glass jar set this weekend you can immediately order milk in glass as the jars will already be at the farm. Please note you have to have glass jars or purchase a set before you can get the glass jar price! For more info on how the glass jar program works and your responsibilities please click here

CLG:  Opening Bell: Apples, Pork, Coffee, Squash!

Good afternoon,
Do you ever get asked why you shop at Conway Locally Grown for your food? I’m sure you give better quality and fresher taste as a standard answer. Did you know that the average American meal uses up to 17 times as much petroleum as a locally-produced meal does? And the average distance supermarket produce travels before it reaches you is a whopping 1,518 miles! Eating local has so many benefits that it’s difficult to narrow your reasons down to just one or two. Eating local is a conscious decision we make based on what’s best for our bodies, what’s best for our families, and what’s best for our environment. Be a locavore!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!

Have a great week!
Steve

The Market is now open!Thursday at 9am – Monday at noon After that, ordering is disabled until Thursday morning. Pick up your order Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

Welcome to Fall! My name is Amanda and I am the new market manager. Yesterday marked the first day of Fall and it was beautiful here in Gwinnett. I live just around the corner from the farm in Dacula on a small horse pasture with my two dogs, a Great Dane and a foster Flatcoated Retriever.

The market is something we truly believe in and we think everyone should know about it! We now have an instagram page and are looking to get the word out there about supporting Gwinnett Locally Grown. Follow us @gwinnettlocallygrown and tag us #gatherlearngrown :)

Did you know we have our own SCOBY population at the farm and sell Kombucha starter kits at the market?

Kombucha tea is a fermented black or green tea used as a functional beverage. Drinkers cite many health benefits, including immune support and aiding in digestive health. But what exactly is it? A SCOBY is a Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast. This is added to sugar and tea so it can ferment. The result is a delicious, effervescent tea rich in probiotics. YUMMY!!

Cheryl will be sitting in with me on Tuesday to finish my training. I look forward to meeting you all! -Amanda

As Always….

Please share with friends and family about us so that we can give more people the opportunity to buy and eat healthy! Local farmers need our support to keep providing us with all the fresh foods! If we don’t give them enough business, it’s hard for them to continue to deliver to us. Please let’s not let that happen! Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living.

Thank you to all of you who support Gwinnett Locally Grown!

If there is something you’d like to see in the Market, please let me know! I would love your input!

Remember…
The Market is extending their hours! The Market will now be open from 4:00 to 7:00pm!
