Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  Important market information.

Greetings everyone.
We are looking forward to another week of yumminess – we have an abundance of spearmint, apple mint and Malabar spinach here on the farm. Weedy Soil Farm is looking at a good supply of squash and green beans starting this week along-with her beautiful greens.

The market will be closed the week of the 21st – 28th. We are going out of town so stock up on items this Wednesday to carry you over until the following week. MILK: I will open the market on Friday the 19th to allow milk orders and will close it Saturday night. This way Sam can still deliver milk to you while we are gone. Lisa Meyer of Cherokee Market on Hwy. 20 has agreed to be our pick-up spot. Here is how this will work. Order your milk on Friday to Saturday and pick-up anytime Wednesday the 24th between 9 and 7. Leave your jars at the market and we will pick them up along with the coolers when we return. BTW, Lisa does carry Cedar Rock Dairy milk if you ever run out. Her address is 11611 Cumming Hwy., Canton. Remember, this is not for this weeks orders, just next week.

Thank you for supporting your local farmers,
Mary Beth

Heirloom Living Market Hamilton Mill:  URGENT Please Read!

The Market is now open…Happy Shopping!

We were told yesterday because we do not carry a Million Dollar Liability Insurance Policy and do not pay for use of the space, we will no longer have access to the Hamilton Mill Community Clubhouse as our Market pickup location.

I spoke with Liz Carter, (Vice-President of the Board of Directors) this morning and she informed me that this was effective immediately. After some discussion, she relented and gave us until the end of June to vacate.

However,

To further complicate matters, there is a Swim Meet scheduled for this next Thursday and we must vacate the premises by 3:00pm. This would mean we would schedule Market pickup between 12:45 – 2:45pm. Although this does not (in theory) propose issues, in reality it does. Some of the issues include:

  • The logistics of changing all Farmer drop off times at the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville location
  • The ability of the Farmers to meet the earlier drop off times which would be two hours earlier
  • Finding someone who can pick up items in Lawrenceville, take to Hamilton Mill, unload and set-up Market. Sarah Rockey usually does this, however, she works prior to volunteering for Market.
  • I have no flexibility to do this task due to another Market Coordinator being on vacation which means I am coordinating the Lilburn Market.
Therefore

Market Pickup for June 18th will be at Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Location. Pickup times will be between 1:45pm – 5:00pm.

Although the Lawrenceville location is about 15 minutes from the Hamilton Mill location, I realize this is an inconvenience. It is the best we can do for this week. You have have been faithful Members of the Market and we truly have done everything to ensure you get the best-of-the best in all that is offered.

Beyond next week, please know we are searching for another Pickup Location and will keep you informed of the progress! If you have any suggestions, or know of somewhere that would allow us use of space for 2.5 hours on Thursdays, please call me at 404-432-4337 with the information.

Hop on over to the Market and place your order…

We take orders Friday 9:00am until Monday 8:00pm

Champaign, OH:  Cruel Summer

It’s a cruel, cruel summer…
Leaving me here on my own…
It’s a cruel, cruel summer…
Now you’ve gone…
(Bananarama – Cruel Summer)

So, yes…cruel summer…the song, the memory, the heartbreak:)

Once upon a time, your hippie market manager was a product of the 80s. I loved club music, the club scene, the club kids. I WAS a club kid. On summer breaks from college, I worked in fashion jobs, I was a mall rat, I ran ad copy at the local newspaper,I ran drinks at a little local pub, I was a mover and shaker on the downtown local scene both in the West End, and the East End. All fun, all profitable, all filled my summer days.

I was the girl who just skipped through life on a whim and a song. I had a boy. I thought he was my world. I entered a club, one summer night. I heard the DJ get a song request, it was Cruel Summer, it was from a never before seen girl, she was smirking, the boy was there, and my name was dedicated to this song. As a break up song. Yes, someone actually broke up with me, via a DJ, with a song.

Did it get me down? Well, after I suffered a full 5 minutes of humiliation, I did what any respectable club girl would do. I smiled, I found my people, we laughed, we dissed, I put on my lip gloss, we ordered a round of whatever we were drinking,(it was the early 80s, we were very of age back then), and we plotted. And, the cruel summer became one of epic urban legend. We still talk about it. People all over still talk about it. We made it our summer. The cruelness of it was that I was hurt for just a second, and then dusted myself off, got ready for the next boy of summer, and had myself a ball.

So…what does this little tale have in common with our little local market of love?

We are about to feel the cruelness of the first wave of summer. We bid a sad farewell to asparagus season. Beth will not have asparagus listed on the market BUT, just like in her first week of the season, she will be set up in the Y lobby, at market pick up, next Thursday, with very limited quantities. Come early, bring cash, escape the cruelness with the last of the season’s asparagus!!

Breaking up is hard to do…and so, we see this, as we need to break up with the strawberries of the season. The Berry Patch is on the market for just ONE more week! Make it your summer love fling. Your summer love fest…whatever you call it, don’t be cruel…order your strawberries!!

And, as we are breaking up with our seasonal food romances, we are also saying hello to our other produce vendors who are rejoining OR joining for the first time!!!

As we mend our seasonal broken hearts, we fall in love with the next seasonal items…

It’s only a cruel summer if you let it be one…say goodbye, order for the last time of the season, dust yourself off, and say hello to your new seasonal love…

We’ve got it all, we fill it all with love, we would never be so cruel as to break up without a back up:)

I am opening the market for the week…think about what you need, think about the seasonal items, think about showing us some cruel summer love…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam
